washing & folding…that’s my everyday victory.

sometimes, when i lay down at night, i wonder how i keep it all together.  being a parent is not an easy job.  being a mother is not for the faint of heart.  i wear many hats.  i perform many duties.  i am expected to excel in many areas.  i am obligated to perform to the best of my abilities every. single. day.  don’t get me wrong, i love being a mother, but it’s an exhausting job.  yet, each and every day, i am beyond amazed by how well i’ve managed to keep so many lives, schedules, and responsibilities jiving in what seems like harmonious bliss.

when i’m not scrambling to finish up homework {i’m a full-time graduate student} or shuffling my children to or from an activity, i find myself spending a lot of time working in my home.  and, when i say working, i mean cleaning or doing laundry.  laundry is the bane of my existence.  no matter how well i keep up with the laundry there is always one. more. load.  the day we bought our new washer & dryer was the best day of my life {okay, so maybe it wasn’t THE best day, but it ranks in the top ten}.  the day i decided to start making my own laundry detergent to save a little bit of money was the day i started looking at laundry in a different way.  sure, i still hate the process of washing, folding & putting away, but at least now the never-ending pile of dirty “unnawears” and stained shirts seems a bit less daunting.  why?  dawn power clean.

i love a product that can multitask.  not only do i wash our dishes with this soap {and annihilate gangs of fruit flies, too}, but i can also get out tough, set-in stains…especially those hard to wash out grease stains.  slowly but surely, i am learning different tricks of the laundry trade {i mean, who knew rubbing alcohol gets in stains out from clothes…i didn’t until very recently}.  but, one thing that always gave me grief were those pesky grease stains.  y’all, if you’ve seen me eat or cook, you know that i am a mess.  well, i’m not THAT big of a mess, but i have been known to ruin a good shirt or five.  clothes are not cheap and when you live on a single-income, you can’t always replace a shirt or a pair of shorts every time there is a stain on them.  so, what do i do?  i squeeze some dawn power clean onto the stubborn stain {usually butter or oil splatters} and let it soak before running it through the laundry.  the end result?  a freshly laundered, stain-free shirt.

i may feel like mount st. laundry erupts a little too regularly and that matching socks is pure torture, but doing the laundry is a chore that cannot be ignored.  besides, the fact that i can clean stained clothes that i once thought were bound for the trash can AND save money by using a product that multitasks?  that, my friends, is an everyday victory.
