living with two kids, two dogs, and – let’s face it – a not-so-neat husband in a home with tile, laminate, AND carpeted floors means that i spend a LOT of my time cleaning the floors. i despise using a broom. mopping is not my favorite chore. but, vacuuming, well, i don’t mind it so much. once upon a time, i had been using what i thought was the greatest upright on the planet. but my opinion quickly changed when the oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner came into my life.
when the oreck magnesium showed up on my doorstep {months ago…i’ve been holding out on y’all}, i squealed with delight! yes, a new household appliance made me squeal with delight. this, folks, is how you know you are indeed a grown up, but i digress…
the magnesium required some assembly, but it wasn’t hard to snap the handle into the body base. a vacuum bag was already inserted into the vacuum cleaner, so basically all i had to do was plug her in and go. one of the first things i noticed about the oreck magnesium was it’s size and weight. this vacuum cleaner is not bulky nor is it awkward or heavy to lift. in fact, the oreck magnesium is super lightweight. i can carry it with one hand {and it’s even easy for my 9 & 11 year old kids to manuver…yes, i make them vacuum, too!}.
the oreck magnesium has two speeds: fast & slow. well, that’s what i call them. push the on button once and you’re good to go…full suction that is perfect for carpets. push the on button twice {or one more time if the vacuum is already on} and the vacuum’s suction speed slows down just a bit making it great for non-carpeted floors. i find that i switch between both settings when i go through my house because i use the oreck magnesium all over the place: on the tile floors in the kitchen, on the laminate floors in the living areas & on the carpet in the bedrooms. oh, and one word about the magnesium’s suction: powerful. i’ve managed to vacuum up dog toys and legos without issue. also, the vacuum will automatically shut off if it sucks up something that it shouldn’t have {what a great safety feature!}. long gone are the days of wrestling with the drum roller to unwind your kid’s sock or fish out a misplaced toy!
another feature that i enjoy? the vacuum’s headlight. it’s trivial, i know, but i’ve never owned a vacuum cleaner with a headlight and i really like that the oreck magnesium has one. i makes cleaning in corners or darker spaces just a tad bit easier. also, the fact that i can get underneath furniture with ease is a GREAT feature of the oreck magnesium. with my old vacuum cleaner, i would have to move chairs or tables just to make sure i was getting everything clean. but, the oreck magnesium can nearly lay flat in order to get under your couch or chairs. in addition, i have never owned or used a vacuum that required bags. i’ve grown accustom to just emptying a canister. but, let me tell you, it’s EASY to change the bag in the oreck magnesium. and, i love that i do not have to worry about any of the dust or particles flying through the air when i do change the bag.
my only complaint about the oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner? there are no attachments. that was one of the things i enjoyed about my old vacuum cleaner. i could easily go from vacuuming the carpets to vacuuming my window sills and base boards. with the oreck magnesium? not so much. so, i ended up keeping around my old vacuum cleaner just so i would have some attachment options when it came to cleaning other portions of my home.
overall, i am BEYOND pleased with the oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner! it meets a lot of my cleaning needs and it is backed by oreck’s impressive warranty. i cannot enough wonderful things about the magnesium. once you welcome the magnesium into your home, you’ll see what i mean.
