My ring

i turned fifteen. for my birthday, i received a ring.  this ring... a ring that no longer fits my finger. a ring with a bent band. a ring that meant the world to me at fifteen and still means the world to me now at thirty-five. that ring? it was given to me by a boy. but, not just any boy.  this boy stole my heart. and, over the years, that boy gave me many rings... including the OTHER ring in the picture. twenty years ago, adam & i celebrated my 15th birthday together {he was the lone boy in a living room full of teenage girls...lucky him}.  here we are, twenty years later, celebrating my 35th birthday.  still together. this year, i did not get a ring or other fancy things. instead, i got grocery store flowers that turn the water in the vase pink … [Read more...]

halfway up the hill.

i turn thirty-five next week. that seems weird to type.  even weirder that i typed the number out rather than just typing this:  35. thirty-five. ugh. that's halfway up the hill.  i'm not quite over the hill.  just yet. i remember when thirty-five felt so old. oh, who am i kidding, i'm nearly five years to 40.  that is old. of course, when i finally turn 40 i'm sure i'll be saying it's the new thirty. but, back to thirty-five... i'm not quite sure i'm ready for it.  i know, like it or not, that's the age i'll turn next week, but quite honestly i don't think i'm ready to grow up just yet. not now. but maybe by the time i turn forty. … [Read more...]

we ain’t scared: cupcakes & monster trucks

we've been to birthday parties with magicians, pony rides & a six foot tall mouse {ugh...chuck e. cheese}, but we've NEVER been to a birthday party with a monster truck...until now. on saturday, we attended a sweet boy's third birthday party. his parents are dear friends of ours & we were so glad we were able to join in on the fun {the party was supposed to be LAST weekend, but we all know how that turned out...*cough*irene*cough*}. the kids took a ride in the truck. the driver took them around the yard. i totally thought that my son would be stoked about the monster truck. nope! aidan opted to keep swimming in the pool {with two pretty girls, of course!}, but malia dried off, put on her flip flops & got on board! she said it was the neatest thing ever!there was even a junk … [Read more...]

thirty-three.

i turned thirty-three last month.honestly, it was like any other day weekend, but sweeter.some cards, some presents, flowers, a nice dinner & a fun night out weekend with friends & family.{so long, thirty-two!} on my birthday eve, we hung out with a very good friend who was in town.  our buddy, josh, lives in istanbul, turkey so visits with him are very few & far in between.we danced to some beach music, drank many beers & told stories about our threesome.{just so you know, the threesome i am referring to is three-way calling.  remember that back in the day?  anyways, josh was the guy who hooked me & adam up.  many, many years ago.  when we were fourteen.}i hate to admit it, but adam & i fought on my birthday. c'est la vie.  all was quickly forgiven & … [Read more...]
