“better than store bought” granola bars

Homemade Granola Bars

many months ago, when my parents were in the process of moving, i inherited a bunch of their pantry staples including a LARGE TUB of quick cook oats. we love oatmeal & i also use oatmeal in my meatballs, but i wanted to do something else with them...but what? i'm honestly not sure why i haven't made homemade granola bars before, but - believe me - i will keep making them.  seriously, they are SO MUCH BETTER than the store-bought variety.  depending on which ingredients you have on hand versus what you need to buy, yes, homemade granola bars can be more expensive than picking up your favorite variety at wally world. BUT, they are ridiculously easy to make and i bet you'll be pleased with how yummy they taste. the recipe i used is a variation of this recipe from joyful … [Read more...]

if you really knew me…

you would know that... i am short:  in height & in temper. i have never used a lawn mower in my life.  ever. i am not trendy by any stretch of the imagination. i'm trying, though. i have done some dumb shit in my life. really dumb, y'all. i cuss. a lot. sometimes, i feel ignored on my blog & the twit. honestly, though? i'm okay with that. i have very few friends that i would trust with my life. VERY few. i've been wondering whether or not the shenanigans have to end...you know, now that i'm thirty-five. please say they don't. i think glitter nail polish is the devil.  but i still wear it. i am a really bad housewife. i procrastinate.  hell, sometimes i even procrastinate about procrastinating. yeah, it's that bad. i am disorganized.  i honestly don't know how i … [Read more...]

i don’t like blue sweet tarts {and other random crap}.

Studying

clearly, blogging has taken a back seat to grad school and my desire to be a lazy bum.  seriously, i stare at a computer for hours every day working on online discussions, papers, research, etc. that the last thing i want to do is come up with clever blog content.  for real, y'all.  those of you who blog daily...i bow down to you {and i secretly want to be like you...sorta}. anyways...enough with my attempt at ass kissing. let me get you caught up on me, my life, and why i haven't been around much. self-explanatory, huh?  i have a spot in the living room that is piled with random school things.  my laptop has taken up permanent residence on a t.v. tray.  i'm pretty sure my rear end has made a dent in the couch cushion.  but, i DENY that i am the reason why the upholstery … [Read more...]

making gift giving easier with giftbirdy.

Gift Birdy

it's inevitable... sometime between halloween & thanksgiving, my children sit at the computer, create lavish holiday wish lists, and print them out for me.  my youngest child makes a basic list of what he wants...starting with the toys first.  my oldest, however, is thoughtful enough to include pictures, a description of the item, AND a coupon code {if she sees one online}.  seriously. but, now that we've been introduced to giftbirdy, my children's gift lists will never be the same. what is giftbirdy, you say?  well, just as the motto states, it's a website that takes the guess work out of gift giving!  as you may have guessed, it's a gift wish list website, but it's geared for kids, tweens & teens!  there's so much more to giftbirdy than just being a gift wish list … [Read more...]

two side dishes for your thanksgiving table.

Sweet Potato Casserole

thanksgiving is nearly upon us and, if you're anything like me, you're making a shopping list for your turkey day feast.  {i know, i know, the big day is only a couple of days away...}  this year, my husband and i are having a big dinner with his family, but we are ONLY responsible for the sides.  well, the sides and dessert, but still... WOO HOO!  we're not cooking the turkey this year! normally, i make it a point to make sure that my pantry is well-stocked and that my refrigerator has all of the necessary ingredients.  sometimes, however, i run out of a product or i just don't have enough of a certain ingredient.  fortunately, substituting an ingredient is not as daunting as it seems...especially if you have a Unilever Spread like Country Crock on hand. Country … [Read more...]
